When you have a look at a map of the Mediterranean Sea you will come to appreciate why each Mediterranean country has some form of influence from other countries in the region. This is especially evident with cooking, with flavours from Europe, Africa and Asia frequently making an appearance in local dishes.
Karen is the cook behind the Whaligoe Steps Café Restaurant, and is of mixed heritage
- Welsh, Scots & Maltese, Italian being the latest generations. Having spent her
childhood in Malta, and frequently returning there throughout her adult life, the
flavours and smells of the island are both evocative and familiar.
However, in true Maltese fashion, her cooking draws upon the food of the whole Mediterranean
Basin, with dishes from Italy, Spain, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey & Greece frequently
making an appearance.
Freshness is important to us, and most of the food will be seasonal. We hope that
you enjoy our ‘Mid-Med’ food, and if you have any particular favourites that we don’t
offer, please do let us know, as we may be able to cook them up for you!
